This is troublesome on so many levels. An "anti-sprawl" group (those who want everyone to live in densely settled neighborhood) says that too many kids in Maryland ride on the school bus for too long. Their solution: "We must change development patterns to build more walkable communities closer to schools."
Mobility is not the problem. Mobility enhances opportunities. We should focus on improving mobility, not tying people to a two-square mile radius.
On the other hand, a move away from supersized schools, something talked about in this Baltimore Sun story, is good for student learning.
