A Mackinac Center commentary highlights the often counterproductive, political nature of regulations so well I may hand it out on Halloween as a government horror story.
“Used-Car Dealer Regulations Kill Small Businesses” reviews how new Michigan regulations in 2004 have “effectively put more than 850 small businesses out of business, and imposed tremendous burdens on others.” The commentary notes the role played by special interests, including the “politically well-connected Michigan Auto Dealers Association,” in using the law to tilt the economic field in favor of some over others.
This year, in addition to candy, toss Mackinac's commentary into trick or treaters’ bags -- and listen for the late night screams.
