Mandated Sick Time?

Unions push for Ohio referendum on mandatory sick leave

In a story illustrating that unions aren't content with Ohio's poor tax climate to discourage job creation in the state, it now seems they are behind an effort to mandate that companies with 25 or more employees offer at least seven days of sick leave per year.

As a spokesman for the National Federation of Independent Business/Ohio put it, "If you're a business owner in Ohio, large and small, watching the citizens of the state dictate what happens in your workplace while you're trying to compete globally, it sends a pretty disheartening message." Ohio has been lagging in job creation and has seen its young people migrating out of state because the state lacks job opportunities. If the unions really cared about the state's workers, there are a lot better ways of doing it than trying to place more mandates on businesses.
