Poll Shows President May Be Winning SCHIP Policy Debate

Filed As:  Health Care

According to a new USA Today poll, a majority of Americans now "back two positions at the core of the president's opposition to the [SCHIP] expansion."

Fifty two percent agreed that SCHIP should be targeted at children below 200 percent of the federal poverty level and 55 percent were concerned that SCHIP expansion would prompt families to drop private coverage. Despite the fact that a majority of Americans now side with the president on the major SCHIP policy issues, 52 percent continue to maintain more confidence in Democrats to handle the issue.
