AMT and SCHIP

Filed As:  Health Care

If you make enough money to be liable for a special tax on the wealthy, should you also qualify for taxpayer aid for your children's health insurance?

Pro-socialism groups are ginning up support in Nevada and elsewhere for an expansion of government health care through an expansion of SCHIP. The Nevada Appeal reports that so far, the lobbying efforts targeting Rep. Dean Heller, of Carson City, haven't paid off.

"Heller, like the president, said he believes the changes by Democrats in Congress expand the program's reach too far. He said the amended plan would allow government subsidized coverage for children in well-off families, 'including those considered wealthy enough to pay the alternative minimum tax, a tax on 'the rich' which starts at $75,000 for an individual.'"
