I wonder if the IRS is being overzealous here. Ya think?

Then again, maybe the law is written such that the tax is not on petroleum, but on anything that "fuels" a car. (Wonder what they would do with a solar car?)

But you're right; fuel taxes are a poor proxy for distributing the load of road construction and maintenance on those who use roads.
