The Arkansas Policy Foundation reports on the facts of employment growth in Arkansas. It isn't a pretty situation.
The largest sector in the state is "Trade, Transportation and Utilities," with 250,700 jobs. The second? Government of all levels, at 210,800. Manufacturing is third, at 191,200.
Total non-farm employment grew 1.3% last years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. But government employment grew even more--2.4%, or nearly twice as rapidly.
Government jobs are paid for out of taxes on non-government jobs. The out-sized growth of public sector employment is not a good sign.
