Donkey Kong and the Free Society Lesson

There are a whole lot of interesting--and sometimes bizarre, voluntary societies being built out there. Some involve money, some don't.

For what it's worth, this discussion reminds me of another voluntary effort, and that' the Firefox web browser. I've been using it for two years, and like it a lot.

Even though the feds came down hard (and in my view, needlessly) on Microsoft, at least they didn't make matters worse by creating a "Department of Web Interface" to develop an alternative web browser.

As the open source movement and the Donkey Kong people show, you often don't need a government bureau to have standards necessary for societal interaction.
