Wisconsin Duplicity

A two-tier system built into law

Filed As:  Health Care

Stop the presses! We have discovered some political duplicity.

Wisconsin Senate Democrats pushed through legislation that would provide health coverage for every Wisconsinite under age 65. The Wall Street Journal recently editorialized that the bill would cost an estimated $15.2 billion -- which is $3 billion more than the state currently collects in all income, sales and corporate income taxes.

But at least it tries to implement the Left's egalitarian vision of putting everyone in the same system, right? None of this two-tier stuff, where the rich or politically well-connected get better care, right?

Not exactly. It appears at this writing that the public school teachers got themselves exempted from the plan. And you can expect more defections if, in the unlikely case, this legislation were actually to become law.

It's a story as old as political demagoguery: Politicians claim they have done something to help "the people," while quietly ensuring that they don't hurt themselves or their friends.
