Beware Experts Bearing Gifts

Green lobby targets legislatures

Filed As:  Environment

Legislators, beware experts bearing low-cost advice.

Writing in the Washington Times, Paul Chesser (of the John Locke Foundation) warns that environmental lobbies are "placing their own advocates in positions that will push policies on a snoozing populace like smart growth, subsidies for renewable power sources, fuel surcharges, and higher taxes on electricity."

It's been said that life belongs to those who show up. And show up these advocates do, bankrolled by foundations pushing for more political control of life. The web site for the Center for Climate Strategies, the subject of Chesser's commentary, gives no indication as to who is behind the Center. Chesser tells you who, and says that they offer cut-rate consulting services to states. The results, though, are likely to be curtailed freedoms for citizens, and needless, politically-mandated spending.
