SCHIP Cheerleading in Ohio Media

Filed As:  Health Care

The Dayton Daily News had a story recently about how Ohio would benefit from an expansion of SCHIP. Perhaps not surprisingly, the only "experts" quoted in the story were from, as the Daily News put it, the "liberal-leaning" Families USA (they only lean liberal? I've had some interaction with folks from Families USA over the years and they certainly do more than "lean" liberal). According to their data, Ohio stands to gain $1.6 billion in federal money under an expanded SCHIP.

I looked to see if the Daily News also gave any coverage to the report recently issued by the Tax Foundation that the way the proposed SCHIP expansion would be funded (a higher cigarette tax) would cost the average Ohio family $111. Not surprisingly, there was no mention in the Ohio media about this study. Perhaps the Tax Foundation is too "conservative-leaning"?
