Political satirist PJ O’Rourke’s latest book, On the Wealth of Nations, pays humorous homage to Adam Smith and the ideas Smith spelled out in his tome of near same title. You, too, can honor Smith in a public way: Contribute online, or by mail like I did, to help place a landmark monument in his honor in Edinburgh, Scotland. The Adam Smith Institute in London has undertaken the task of getting a statute built and a magnificent site selected for this six meter (20-foot) high base and bronze statue. Maybe you won’t wade through the two-volume, 900 or so pages of The Wealth of Nations (depending on your edition) or even read O’Rourke’s comedic Cliff’s Notes version, but you can take a few moments to ensure that Mr. Smith stands for the ages in the Royal Mile, downhill from the castle that dominates Edinburgh.
