In most places in America, government welfare is viewed as a bad thing or at least something that should not be a way of life...well not in New Mexico!  

In fact, right at the top of the home page of our Human Services Department is the statement "Serving one in three."

While serving one of three New Mexicans may seem like a lot, if the Legislature passes "universal health care" which Governor Bill Richardson has endorsed, one in three could be only the beginning.
