$15,000 Bastiat Prize Deadline Approaches!

Filed As:  General

June 30, 2007 is the deadline for the Bastiat Prize for Journalism, worth a total of $15,000 (US). Our philosophical kin at the International Policy Network, which organizes the program, states the Prize “will be awarded to one or more authors – and it will be awarded to the entry that best embodies the spirit, intellect and wit of philosopher and journalist Frédéric Bastiat.”

IPN’s entry aims are pretty wide open: All published writers around the world, including those who toil for think tanks, NGOs or as academics, are eligible to enter -- so long as their published writings “eloquently and wittily elucidate the institutions of a free society: limited government, rule of law brokered by an independent judiciary, protection of private property, free markets, free speech, and sound science.”

Entries can be submitted online as well as by e-mail, fax and post (more likely private overnight delivery at this point). In addition to international recognition and monetary gain, the winner(s) will be invited to attend an October 2007 prize dinner at the Princeton Club in New York City.
