Moving Picture Institute: Liberty in Film

Filed As:  General

Popularizing the ideas of liberty through film requires more than the placement of the book Atlas Shrugged in “Dirty Dancing.” Enter the Moving Picture Institute, which “identifies and nurtures promising filmmakers who are committed to protecting and sustaining a free society, and supports their work through grants, travel scholarships, awards, internships, training workshops, and networking opportunities.”

“Mine Your Own Business” is a recent MPI-supported film. MPI executive director Rob Pfaltzgraff wrote in a recent email, the film “makes the case for economic liberty, exploring how Western environmental activists are keeping the world’s poorest people poor because they believe their lifestyles are quaint.” Pfaltzgraff noted, “To arrange a screening of ‘Mine Your Own Business,’ contact MPI for a free DVD copy.”

MPI also supported “Indoctrinate U,” which was produced by On the Fence Films. Pfaltzgraff stated, “’Indoctrinate U’ charts how, in the name of education, American colleges and universities ruthlessly compel conformity of thought. … [T]his scorching indictment of American higher education should make students, parents, trustees, lawmakers, and taxpayers sit up and take notice.”

The Moving Picture Institute offers many opportunities for people interested in advancing the principles of liberty through film, including internships. Check out MPI and spread the word about it to others of like mind and interest.
