Beware of Health Care Cure All

Filed As:  Health Care

It is widely expected that some kind of major health care reform will be a top priority in New Mexico's 2008 legislative session. Among the proposals up for consideration will be a single-payer model.

In a recent op-ed in the Albuquerque Journal, Rio Grande Foundation President Paul Gessing argues against any single "reform plan" as a solution for health care and instead points to the slow peeling back of harmful government regulations and programs, which will make health care and health insurance less expensive for all New Mexicans.

New Mexico can't solve its health care mess all by itself, but with Congress' help and initiative in Santa Fe, we can avoid the single-payer disasters we've seen in other states.
