The Independence Institute bills its Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Party as the “most politically incorrect event of the year.” And they sell “limited edition” T-shirts as proof you were there, even if you weren’t. This is the fifth annual party, so the safety issues have been resolved (skeet shooting comes first, then cigars, lunch and libations – wise decision indeed).
The fiesta takes place Saturday, June 23 at the Kiowa Creek Sporting Club. I plan to make the trek. The cheerfully helpful Julie Mallon provided me with details. Contact her at (303) 279-6536 or julie@i2i.org. Lunch only is $50. Shooting, food, smokes and adult beverages, merely 150 bucks. Cool T-shirts a scant $15; order those online.
Of the party, Institute president Jon Caldara recently wrote, “This is where we shoot PETA-friendly clay pigeons, enjoy adult beverages, and smoke in one of the last places in Colorado where it's still legal - outside. I'm sure the nannyists will catch-up to that loophole in next year's legislative session.”
Caldera announced, “Steve Moore of the Wall Street Journal's editorial board will be joining us as our guest speaker. Other celebrity guests joining us for the day of debauchery include: Richard Miniter of pajamasmedia.com and author of such books as Losing Bin Laden, and Andrew Breitbart of breitbart.com and drudgereport.com.”
The shooter tickets, Julie informed me, include “100 rounds of ammo, 100 clays, shot gun use (if you do not have your own), an instructor per foursome" and the stuff listed above. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., the shoot starts a little after 10:00am. If you like, RSVP and purchase your tickets online. Alternatively, pay by check and mail it to:
