Marketing Freedom Over Myth

Student symposium seeks pro- and anti-market pop-culture examples

Filed As:  Economic principlesGeneral

Can you spare a pop-culture example? The Mackinac Center’s Isaac Morehouse would like pop-culture examples of anti- and pro-free market ideas. Why? He's organizing a college student symposium on “marketing freedom over myth.” Send your ideas to: morehouse@mackinac.org.

One symposium discussion will highlight myths about freedom and free markets, and how to debunk them. Morehouse seeks newspaper, magazine and short TV or movie clips, and the like, that are exemplar of pop-culture myths about free markets. Likewise, he seeks pop-culture examples that uphold the ideals of liberty and markets.

One suggestion he's received to date: "Show a 10-minute excerpt of The Greens, or the Planeteers, and then lead the class in deconstructing its anti-capitalist messages." Of course, to do this, he needs to identify a particularly fruitful 10 minutes worth of anti-capitalist indoctrination from these sources or others. Can you help Morehouse out? If yes, contact him at morehouse@mackinac.org.
