Belleayre is part of an amendment to the NYS Constitution. The amendment, approved by legislators representing NYS taxpayers, implies stewardship to support Belleayre. Belleayre is the major economic driver of the entire Rt. 28 corridor from Kingston to Margaretville from November - April. Closing or cutting back on Belleayre could actually cost the state more in income taxes lost, sales tax lost, and new payouts in welfare and food-stamps due to unemployment. After investing in Belleayre since the mid 1980's, they would be throwing the investment away. The cuts are a political play, fostered by lobbyists hired by Green County real estate developers. New York taxpayers should look elsewhere for fraud and major abuses of state budget when Belleayre's normal operating costs are likely less than $10 million. The NYS budget for 08-09 exceeds 120 BILLION. For example, fraud in the medicaid system alone has been estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars yearly.
