The idea of drilling in ANWR is getting a lot of attention. But there are other, less obvious sources of oil and gas. Russ Harding, of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, makes the case for lifting the ban on drilling in the Great Lakes.
There's a federal ban, but that was preceded by a state ban. Harding calls for allowing "directional" or "slant" drilling, in which most of the equipment is placed on land. He says that 30 wells could be drilled under the Great Lakes, offering up to $4 billion in economic benefits.
