USA Today says that billions of dollars are needed to fix deficient bridges across the country.

Sure, it's going to be a challenge to maintain and improve on the collection of bridges we depend upon to get us and our stuff from point A to point B.

But will the money that is collected from taxpayers actually fix the problems? Or will it go to mass transit, the social-planning tool du jour, which costs a lot and does little to actually improve mobility?
