The Cost of Federal Strings

States love "free" money from Washington. But whether the money comes through No Child Left Behind, Medicaid, or any number of other laws and programs, the free money isn't quite free.

It comes with strings and conditions that distort the perspectives of legislators.

The Arizona-based Goldwater Institute suggests "several structural reform efforts exist that would help free Arizonans from the grip of overarching federal authority."
