Stateline.org offers a he-said, she-said update on the status of efforts to introduce competition to schooling through school choice measures such as vouchers and tax credits.
Some efforts have in fact been repelled this year y ear, notably in Missouri and South Carolina. But Utah has enacted the first universal voucher program in the nation. (It faces a legal challenge now. Should anyone be surprised that the establishment would let this challenge to its position go without response?)
Momentum is, for now, on the side of choice. "Last year was a banner one for the choice movement. Of 28 states that considered bills, eight enacted laws to create or expand voucher or tax credit programs. Currently, 12 states and the District of Columbia have some type of choice program, ranging from personal tax credits to vouchers for kids in failing schools."
