Here's one cost of our excessively demanding and complex tax system that doesn't get much attention: It generates a lot of paper.
I received in my virtual inbox an invitation from my accountant, to shred some real papers.
"On Saturday, May 10 we will have a document destruction truck in the parking lot of [our business name] from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Bring in those old tax returns, credit cards and solicitations and securely destroyed while you feat on hot dogs prepared by our friends from [local vendor].
A follow-up e-mail noted that around here, we recently celebrated Tax Freedom Day.
Yep, now we're able to work for ourselves, not politicians and their clients.
