True Stimulus: Eliminate New Mexico’s Personal Income Tax

The Rio Grande Foundation has proposed an economic stimulus plan for New Mexico: the elimination of that state’s personal income tax. A recent RGF report outlines a specific, four-year plan for doing so. Foundation president Paul Gessing points out, "Happily, relevant, recent data on tax rate reductions made from 2003-2008 illustrates the fact that this can be done by simply holding spending to 4.5 percent annual growth."
