The Cato Institute is watching legislation in the U.S. Congress that would require states to verify assets held by Medicaid applicants, thus "exposing the personal information held by financial institutions to government access."
Well, yes. As Jim Harper notes, this is the logical conclusion of a government program: to deal with fraud, waste and abuse, it pries ever-deeper into personal matters.
Actually, when government pays the bill, there are no personal matters.
