"Don't tax you. Don't tax me. Tax that fellow behind the tree!"

We had exactly the same problem in California. Restaurants and retailers especially lobbied for a sales tax or gross receipts tax instead of employer pay-or-play mandate, in response to both the Schwarzenegger-Nuņez ABX1 1 health care "deforminator" and San Francisco's health ordinance (currently in litigation).

Message to all businesses: We do NOT need more money in government-run health care, no matter whose hide gets skinned!
