The Washington Policy Center reports on some good news for the cause of transparency of public spending:
Governor Gregoire signed SB 6818 into law. Jason Mercier, director of WPC's Center for Government Reform, attended the bill signing ceremony in the governor's office. The bill is based on Washington Policy Center's recommendation for the state to adopt a searchable budget website. It passed the legislature unanimously last month. The bill directs the Legislative Program and Evaluation Committee (LEAP) to implement the site by January 1st, 2009.
