Lawrence W. Reed, president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, says that Michigan could benefit from having a part-time legislature. Michigan is one of a handful of states with a full-time legislature. Perhaps not coincidentally, Michigan also has what is arguably the worst economy in the country, with its personal income at an all-time low when compared with other states.
While this has been happening, Michigan lawmakers have been considering bills such as a proposal to establish an official poet.
