Damascus, Oregon voters overwhelmingly passed three city charter amendments in March that help keep their local government lion in its place. The citizen-led initiatives: require compensation if city regulation reduces property value (67% voter approval); require voter approval of all taxes, charges and fees (70%); and require that the city of Damascus offer the original owners of condemned properties the first right to buy back the property if the city tries to sell it (76%). Assisting the local effort was Americans for Prosperity-Oregon. The results in this town offer encouragement to other potential heroes of the Second American Revolution who wish to see the principles of liberty upheld.
