National Federation of Independent Business flip floppers?

The claim that NFIB proposals are something that free-market reformers should support is just more of the the usual spin. Universal access/availability, comprehensive reform, and choice with government providing the means for the needy to "get coverage," masks the usual push for more government control by using words that poll better.

The logic of the NFIB national agenda, posted at http://www.nfib.com/page/healthcare.html, is the Massachusetts plan writ national. It even mouths the usual leftist nonsense about using evidence to improve health and to come up with "appropriate treatment choices and better wellness and preventive care" as "key outcomes." Please. It doesn't take a genius to know that a lot of businesses out there just want health care out of their lives. A government takeover is the best prospect for that and let the chips fall where they may.
Liberty and Mike,

The NFIB proposal is one that free-market proponents should applaud, as it focuses on interstate competition, limiting mandates, and HSAs (see here).

They are using the term "universal" to imply universal access/availability (through the market) - while still opposing single-payer, payroll taxes, mandates, or expansion of government-run health care. Their coalition with AARP and SEIU (DividedWeFail.org) is much more vague on this front, though
Mike,

Thanks for your response.

Yea, this just sounds so shady.
Who knows. A lot of these groups just figure that they can politically craft a plan where they come out smelling like roses at someone elses expense. Time to take this issue away from employers and their trade groups by making boss paid premiums taxable and giving workers refundable, risk-adjusted credits to buy their own coverage.
