The Utah Legislature wants to extend a tax credit to state residents who buy health insurance on their own. That's the good news. The bad news: they're going to offset those credits by raising the general sales tax. The increased sales tax will also go into some old-fashioned corporate welfare, such as subsidies for Delta airlines.
Says the Salt Lake City Tribune: "An estimated 70,000 households will benefit from the health insurance tax cut. The money also will pay for a tax credit for people using solar projects and for those with limited-liability corporations and partnerships."
