Deroy Murdock Takes on "Universal Health Care"

By Paul Gessing

Filed As:  Health Care

Deroy Murdock warns Americans of the folly of socialized medicine using a study of England's failing National Health Service from the London-based TaxPayers' Alliance.

Among the findings:  Low-quality, taxpayer-funded health care killed more than 17,000 Britons in 2004;

9 percent of British hospital inpatients in 2000 suffered hospital-acquired infections;

66.3 percent of American men alive five years after cancer diagnosis. Only 44.8 percent of Englishmen survived after five years;

Across the European Union, 20.1 females per 100,000 under 65 died prematurely of circulatory disease. Among British women, that number was 23.6.

Before following Britain's socialized model, Americans might want to take a closer look at exactly what government health care has delivered elsewhere.
