States Judged by Population Movements

Filed As:  Budget and TaxEconomic principles

The Heartland Institute offers a couple of interesting items about population shifts in the country. First, people are moving away from high-cost states. Second, this is seen specifically in the case of New York, which in the last 7 years has lost as many people as New Orleans has lost. In the case of the Big Easy, a hurricane was to blame. In the case of New York, it's lost economic opportunities--due in some measure to bad policy.
