Voting with their Feet

Filed As:  Budget and Tax

The population shift to the sunbelt--and a better economic prospects--continues., according to new numbers from the Census Bureau. Between January 1, 2006 and July 1, 2007, all New England states lost residents.

Scott Moody notes that more people moved out of Maine than moved in, and that this could be the year when New Hampshire surpasses Maine in population.

People vote with their feet, not only to pursue lower taxes, but also the sunnier economic conditions that can exist in a low-tax state.

Another state with high taxes and poor economic policy is Michigan. Not only is it losing people, but its share of the national economy is shrinking.
