Sometimes you'll hear the most amazing things in state-of-the-state speeches.
From Out of Control:
New York's Democratic Governor Eliot Spitzer – a big government liberal best known for using dirty tactics to terrorize political opponents and company CEO’s – proposed a bold new plan to cap property taxes in his recent state-of-state address.
Though it's insufficient to focus on one form of taxation above all others (the chief problem with government is that it spends too much and on the wrong things), Gov. Spitzer's campaign to address property taxes can be useful it is focuses on making hard choices in spending. E.J. McMahon of the Empire Center for New York State Policy has some recommendations for what a cap should look like.
