A New Football Coach v. New Superintendent

Whenever a big-time college football program hires a new coach, you'll likely hear arguments about misplaced priorities: What a pity it is that we spend $X million on sports and so little on education.

Recently the University of Michigan hired a new football coach, and the Detroit Public Schools hired a new superintendent. The former is known for academic excellence, the latter is not.

Writing on the politics blog of the Detroit News, cartoonist and editorial writer Henry Payne notes some striking differences between the new coach and the new superintendent.

One person came with a canned presentation and was careful to avoid tough questions. The other fielded difficult questions.
