Medicaid represented 2% of GDP in thye year 2000. CBO has estimated it will represent 9% of GDP by the year 2075 without program changes. If you talk to proponents of the current system they will admit that the program is fiscally unsustainable. And yet their solution to its huge unfunded liabilities (not to mention that it is the worst quality health program in the nation) is the status quo.
