Edwards to Threaten Congress's Health Care if Elected

By Paul Gessing

Filed As:  Health Care

John Edwards has issued an absurd threat/promise on health care: If he's elected President and Congress doesn't pass universal health care, he'll veto funding for Congress's health care. While I don't support Edwards's dream of universal coverage, the idea of Members of Congress going without their cushy, taxpayer-funded health plans is an enticing thought.

Unfortunately, I don't have as much confidence as Edwars does that his fellow Democrats would go to the mat for Edwards's own universal coverage plan if their own care is on the line. Thankfully (or unfortunately if you think this game of chicken would really materialize), I doubt Edwards will be living in the White House anytime soon.
