Well, that didn't take long. Less than a month after Utah enacts a universal school voucher plan, the reactionaries of the status quo interests strike back.
The following note comes from the Alliance for School Choice:
"School choice opponents in UT have filed with the Lt. Governor papers necessary to launch a referendum to repeal Utah's recently enacted universal school choice program. They will have 40 days to collect the requisite number of signatures. If the effort proceeds and they succeed in collecting the signatures (and the required number is small enough that they likely would be able to), the program's implementation would be stayed until the next general election in 2008 (unless the Governor calls a special election).
Our local allies and we are examining every possible tactic, both short-term and long-term, to counter their move."
